Reason for Recommended Action/Background

As stated in the Sacramento Bee recently, fentanyl is spreading death and misery throughout the greater Sacramento region. There has been a meteoric rise of people dying of fentanyl poisoning in Yolo County. People are unknowingly ingesting fentanyl, which is 100 times stronger than heroin and dying within seconds. COVID has exacerbated this epidemic. Yolo County needs to take action, similar to Sacramento, and initiate a public awareness campaign focusing on education and prevention.

Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)

The DA and HHSA are working in collaboration in an effort to raise awareness.
