Reason for Recommended Action/Background
Esparto Community Services District did not hold the regular district election in November 2021 for two directors whose terms were expiring in December 2021. With a quorum existing on the district board, the Esparto Community Services District adopted Resolution 22-01 on January 19, 2022 requesting the Board of Supervisors to call a special election to fill two full-term director positions under the provisions of Elections Code section 10004 and consolidate the election with the Statewide Direct Primary Election scheduled for June 7, 2022 (Attachment A).
Elections Code sections 10401 et. seq. permit the Board of Supervisors to consolidate the elections of any legislative or congressional district, public district, city, county or other political subdivision called to be held on the same day with the regular statewide election. This will help reduce the cost of their election and potentially increase voter turnout.
