Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The District Attorney's office started communicating with NICE System in October 2021, as they were a vendor at the California District Attorneys Association's annual conference. On March 29, 2022, NICE System gave the District Attorney's office a presentation of their software solution called NICE Justice. Employees from the Innovation and Technology Services department were present for this presentation. It was determined after the presentation that the District Attorney's office, in collaboration with the Innovation and Technology Services department, would move forward with a contract as this software solution will impact the Criminal Justice System in Yolo County by making the process more efficient.
The NICE Justice software solution will allow the DA to uniform their process from collecting and distributing discovery to the defense in a timely downloadable format. They will be able to standardize video from any media source and/or format, making it universal to be watched/played by the DA Staff as well as the defense. Furthermore, this system will allow the DA staff to transcribe any video/audio discovery within 2 minutes with 90% accuracy in 50 different languages.
This is a five-year agreement and will be funded with $150,000 in innovation funds and $809,673 with CALMMET funds.
