Reason for Recommended Action/Background
West Nile virus (WNV) is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Most people infected have no symptoms, but some, particularly older adults and persons with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems, can develop severe disease and even die after infection with WNV. This update will cover background on WNV itself, including transmission, symptoms, testing, and treatment; up-to-date information on WNV activity in mosquitoes along with WNV cases and deaths in Yolo County, and ways to prevent WNV spread.
