Reason for Recommended Action/Background
California Senate Bill 553 (SB 553) requires California workplaces to have a policy in place for episodes of workplace violence. In accordance with that mandate, staff have prepared the Yolo County Workplace Violence Prevention Policy (Attachment A). The proposed Workplace Violence Prevention Policy (WVPP) was drafted using Cal/OSHA guidance regarding the same.
The goal of the WVPP is to reduce violent incidents at the workplace by (1) increasing employee awareness of workplace violence, (2) supporting violent incident identification and reporting, (3) providing for a mechanism to track workplace violence incidents, and (4) supporting the correction of identified hazards or safety concerns.
The proposed WVPP meets the above goals by providing a clear reporting and investigation procedure for workplace violence incidents, depending on the type of violence (LEVEL 1, 2, or 3), as defined by the policy. The policy also outlines procedures for post-incident investigation and documentation.
