Reason for Recommended Action/Background
On June 26, 2018, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors approved Agreement No. 18-148, authorizing YoloArts to operate the Gibson House and property as a cultural center. As a cultural center, the property is utilized for community programming and education that blends history and artistic activity, while also providing the public with a historical venue for private events.
Agreement No. 18-148 also funded a Museum Curator to oversee the Yolo County Historical Collection, and to work with YoloArts to plan exhibitions, displays, and related programming onsite at the Gibson House. This Museum Curator position was assigned to the County Library for oversight. The Museum Curator has developed a process for collection items to be reviewed, to be deaccessioned when appropriate, and moved to more suitable storage when not on display. The goal of this work has been to develop a collection that encompasses and represents all facets of the Yolo County community.
With the Yolo County Board's authorization today, the agreement allows for continued collaboration and support of Yolo County Arts for arts programming.
