Approve agreement with CommuniCare Health Centers, Inc., in the amount of $145,858 for the period of July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024 for the provision of providing Virtual Dental Health Services to students at Riverbank Elementary School and Esparto Elementary School.

Reason for Recommended Action/Background
Approval of this agreement will provide virtual health dental program services to students at Riverbank and Esparto Elementary Schools. The program includes oral health screenings of all students, oral health exams, referrals, appointment set-up at CommuniCare offices when needed, and on-site emergency treatments when necessary/possible.
This model is supported by and advocated for the CDPH Office of Oral Health as a best practice in school-health care linkages to help students prevent oral health decay or reduce the severity of oral health decay/gum disease with early detection and early intervention efforts using a modality (school-based services) that reduces barriers to students accessing dental care.
The County recommends approval of this agreement as this education is essential for helping to provide access to dental care and education to children, which will, in turn, help them build healthy oral health behaviors and reduce their risk for the chronic diseases of tooth decay and gum disease.

No general funds are required by this action. These services will be funded by PH Realignment. The total amount of this action is $145,858 for the period of July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2024. The amount of $100,429 is included in the HHSA proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23. The related funding will be included in the requested budget process for FY 2023-24.
