Reason for Recommended Action/Background
According to the Welfare and Institutions Code, the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) should deliver an annual report to the County Board of Supervisors.
The CAPC annual report will include a recap of CAPC activities for the prior year (2023), CAPC recommendations related to supporting parent/caregiver mental health, provide information about planned CAPC activities in 2024 (including the “Be the One” 2024 Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign), and provide information about aligning the focus of the CAPC with Yolo County’s Comprehensive Prevention Plan for child abuse.
The CAPC annual report will include a recap of CAPC activities for the prior year (2023), CAPC recommendations related to supporting parent/caregiver mental health, provide information about planned CAPC activities in 2024 (including the “Be the One” 2024 Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign), and provide information about aligning the focus of the CAPC with Yolo County’s Comprehensive Prevention Plan for child abuse.
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)
Yolo County Children’s Alliance (YCCA) is the lead for the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) in Yolo County. The CAPC is a program of YCCA, supported by YCCA staff. As the prevention of child abuse requires the involvement of the entire community, the CAPC includes 12 representatives from Child Welfare Services, the criminal justice system, the prevention and treatment services communities, and the larger community, including:

- CommuniCare Health Centers
- Community partners
- Empower Yolo
- First 5 Yolo
- Resilient Yolo
- Yolo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
- Yolo County Health and Human Services, Child Youth and Family Branch
