Operational Excellence

Reason for Recommended Action/Background

In the late 1990s, there was a small outbuilding built on the roof of the historic courthouse to house a portion of the county's phone system, and as a central connection point for the county's network cable infrastructure. At the time, the Yolo County Superior Court occupied the building and there was no space within the courthouse to put the county equipment. The county has moved to a more modern phone system since then, and the space is no longer needed for that. However, the building on the roof is still a central connection point for cable infrastructure. The General Services Department is planning to have the historic courthouse re-roofed in the coming months, and the small building needs to be removed before the roof work starts. This Board item would approve expenditures from the county's Telecom ISF to relocate and remove cable from the building on the roof so it can be removed in preparation for the roof work.

Competitive Bid Process/Vendor Performance

On July 17, 2024, project proposal requests were sent to all 47 low voltage cable contractors on Yolo County's California Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Act (CUPCCAA) list. A number of these contractors attended a mandatory job walk of the project site on July 25, 2024, and proposals were received from three contractors. We would like to move forward with one of the submitted proposals. See Att. A for proposal.
