Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The historic courthouse roof is identified as needing repair and rehabilitation due to its age. As part of this project, the roof project will remove a standalone roof mounted structure added in the 1970s-1980s that housed telecommunications equipment. The Innovation & Technology Services Department is relocating the equipment into a permanent location in the Historic Courthouse's utility penthouse. The removal of the structure and additional repair of the roof will improve the integrity of the roof during rainstorms. The solicitation for bids will include a bid alternate to remove two skylights that only serve the utility penthouse and frame in the openings to remove potential water intrusion points. The decision to accept the bid alternate would be made at the time the Board decides to accept the recommendation to award the contract.
Collaborations (including Board advisory groups and external partner agencies)
The General Services Department collaborated with the County Administrator's Office, the County Counsel's Office, and the Board's Committee on Capital Investments.
Competitive Bid Process/Vendor Performance
Upon approval of the plans and specifications, the County will begin a competitive solicitation process to select a contractor. The County will return to the Board for the approval of the resulting contract.
