Reason for Recommended Action/Background
On July 1, 2024, the Public Works Division of the Department of Community Services, with the assistance of the Procurement Division of the General Services Department, entered into a one-year agreement with two additional one-year periods at the same pricing, terms and conditions, with West Coast Water and Trucking, Inc., to provide trucking and hauling services. Due to the increased need for trucking and hauling services after heavier than normal storm damage over the 2024-25 winter season, which required trucking services to haul both rock and gravel for repairs, and to haul away material from water and mud damage on the county roads, and the need for hauling services for the upcoming hot asphalt patching season in Spring 2025, staff is requesting an amendment to increase the current contract amount.
In past years, the Public Works Division was able to secure multiple hauling contracts. That was not the case this past recruitment, thus adding to the quicker drawdown of the single West Coast Water and Trucking contract.
Staff is also requesting the optional two one-year periods be increased by the same amount to handle the future tucking and hauling needs of the Public Works Division.
