Adopt budget resolution increasing the fiscal year 2024-25 Tuli Mem Park and Pool budget by $30,000 to fund the resurfacing of the wading pool.

Strategic Plan Goal(s)

Thriving Residents

Reason for Recommended Action/Background

The Tuli Mem Park and Pool, which opened in May of 2019, spans 8.67 acres and is conveniently located within walking distance of the high school, middle and elementary school in Esparto. The park offers a wide array of amenities, including a wading pool designed for community use.

Wading pools require periodic resurfacing every five years as the shallow water exposes the pool surface to more elemental wear.  The wading pool has not been resurfaced since it was opened six years ago. To preserve its functionality and ensure safety, resurfacing is now necessary.  The adjacent lap pool will need resurfacing every ten years, which is anticipated to occur in 2029.

The General Services Department received a donation from Western Yolo Recreation Center Association (WYORCA) in the amount of $30,000, which will allow the Department to complete the pool resurfacing, but these funds were not included for Fiscal Year 2024-25 appropriations of the  Park Division budget.  Accordingly, the General Services Department requests that the Board adopt the attached budget resolution to increase the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Tuli Mem Park and Pool budget by $30,000 to fund the resurfacing of the wading pool.
