Reason for Recommended Action/Background
Previously, the Board took action on August 27, 2024, to update the County's COVID-19 Prevention Procedure. Since August 2024, the County has maintained COVID-19 procedures and guidance that are more stringent than those currently required by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA), the California Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Moving forward, COVID-19 prevention in the workplace will be addressed under the state’s respiratory virus and general workplace safety regulations, consistent with guidance from the California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There are zero active employee COVID-19 cases in the County, and the last reported active case was in October 2025. Human Resources will continue Cal/OSHA COVID-19 recording and reporting requirements until February 3, 2026, and maintain records for a minimum of two (2) years as required, ensuring regulatory compliance.
In the event the California Department of Public Health or Cal/OSHA changes their COVID-19 regulations, Human Resources will provide an update.
Attachment A contains the COVID-19 Prevention Procedure recommended for sunset February 3, 2026, and Attachment B contains the supplemental guidance document Guidance on How to Handle COVID-19 in the Workplace.
