Reason for Recommended Action/Background
There is a need for residents to be prepared for the next emergency. Accordingly, the Yolo County Commission on Aging and Adult Services (YCCAAS) identified the necessity to address the unique needs of older adults and persons with access and functional needs regarding emergency preparedness and evacuation, as they represent the majority of fatalities in an emergency. The Commission developed a Disaster Preparedness Subcommittee to learn about the current County practices and resources and industry best practices to develop a recommendations report.
On January 28, 2020, the Board received a presentation from YCCAAS related to emergency preparedness and evacuation of older adults and persons with access and functional needs. On September 1, 2020, staff returned to the Board with an action plan to implement the recommendations. On February 8, 2022, staff returned to the Board and presented a progress report on the updated recommendations. The attached document (Att. A. YCCAAS 13 Recommendations Progress Report) captures the revised recommendations, the timeline for the recommendation, and the current status of the recommendation from the September 7, 2022, subcommittee meeting. The attached document (Att. B. Emergency Preparedness Subcommittee Update to YCCAAS) provides an update from the September 7, 2022, meeting.
