Reason for Recommended Action/Background

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has been working with local agencies to improve flood emergency preparedness and response throughout California. The local agencies, as first responders, play a key role in management of the flood emergencies in their jurisdictions. Under this grant program, the DWR will award grant funds to agencies to ensure that local agencies have adequate flood preparedness and response capacity and resources. Funding for this Grant Program will be provided through Proposition 1, Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 (Chapter 11, Section 79781).

The 2022 Delta Flood Emergency Response Grant program is the 3rd round for this grant. The Yolo County Office of Emergency Services previously applied for and received funds through the Round 1 Grant in 2014 and the Round 2 Grant in 2017 totaling over $1,435,210 for flood emergency response plans, mapping, training, monitoring equipment and flood fight tools and materials. The Round 3 Grant will allow the Yolo County Office of Emergency Services to continue to develop projects and purchase additional flood fight tools and equipment that will aid in Delta flood preparedness, emergency response and coordination.
