The Yolo Youth Commission was initially presented to the Board of Supervisors on May 10th, 2022. The recommended actions presented on May 10th, 2022 were as follows: 

During that meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved both the pilot program and execution of the Grant Funding Agreement with the Yolo Office of Education. Yolo County Office of Education Program Supervisor, Drucella Miranda, is heading the Yolo Youth Commission. This two-year pilot youth commission program is a partnership between the Yolo County Office of Education and Yolo County. This commission has three (3) residents per district ranging from 13 to 18 years of age, for a total of 15 youth. The youth reside in one of the five (5) Supervisorial Districts of Yolo County. The selected youth will be the first cohort to take part in a request for proposals (RFP) to fund youth initiatives and program development.

The 15 appointed Commissioners are in the process of developing youth centered, community based services and supports via grants. Grant applicants will have the opportunity to compete for grant awards of $40,000 to develop and offer youth support services. The Commission will evaluate grant program applications and select successful candidates. The Yolo Board of Supervisors will review and affirm Commission grant award recommendations. After the Board of Supervisors completes the grant award ratification process, funds will be remitted and the Commission will begin the SOAR process with grantees. SOAR stands for Support, Oversight, Advocacy, and Reporting.

In these ways, the Commission will partner with Grantees to ensure program implementation success. The grant application process will feature two stages. Applicants will submit an initial application that provides an abstract description of their proposed program as well as background information on the proposed program service(s) provider(s). Commissioners and staff will review the applications and invite the most promising applicants to proceed to the next stage in the application process. Those invited applicants will complete a more detailed application and proposal to be submitted and evaluated by the Commission and staff. The Commission will select up to four applicants to be awarded a $40,000 grant. Those selected grant applicants and programs will be reviewed and ratified by the Yolo Board of Supervisors the $40,000 grants will be awarded. A timeline for grant application processes follows:
