Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The County owns 131 parcels totaling over 4,073 acres of land throughout the County. Staff will summarize the County's owned parcels and review staff's efforts to evaluate property acquisition and disposal efforts. This update will provide the Board an opportunity to further guide staff efforts concerning real property.
County staff rely on Board approved plans such as the County's 2030 Countywide General Plan, Parks & Open Space Master Plan, Library Facilities Master Plan, Cache Creek Parkway Plan & Resource Management Plan, and the several Community Area Plans to focus staff's search for acquisition opportunities.
In summary, staff's acquisition strategies look to find opportunities to build facilities to serve community needs due to growth or anticipated planned growth, provide new parkland, expand or preserve existing parkland, and preserve environmentally sensitive or unique areas.
Additionally, the County also leases land from local school districts for local libraries or parks and leases land from the State of California to operate regional park facilities.
Staff will also review historical efforts to surplus or redevelop underutilized real property.
