The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at City Hall, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:

MARGARET LUCHT - introduced herself to the Commission and gave some updates on projects in District 5.

FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT - JERRY CLICK
Spoke to the Commission on upcoming cold weather and the dangers of space heaters. He also gave some unofficial stats on fire department responses.

Congregate Meal Program
Marketing continues as we continue expanding and rebuilding the program
Center Programs
Holiday Activities: Decorate Santa Hats, Make Ornaments, Decorate Ugly Christmas T-Shirts (Sweaters); School Choir Program
Christmas Lunch December 16 with musical entertainment – great success! Lunch was catered by Fire for the Lord; desserts provided by members; Santa pictures for our members; entertainment by Marty Ruiz and our own DJ – James Frederick, one of our bus drivers
New Center Update
New center will be built on current site on Avenue A
Tour of 3 area senior centers: McKinney, Plano, Richardson with SAC members as well as some GSAC instructors and members lead by architecture firm hired to design new center
Input meeting for center members scheduled for Friday, January 20 at Fields Recreation Center 9:30 a.m.
Additional Public Input Meetings scheduled on January 24 at Granger 5:30 to 8 p.m. and January 26 at Audubon 5:30 to 8 p.m.
January Future Activities at Carver Senior Center
Jewelry making, Cardio Drumming, and Yoga class have started in January.
