The City of Chandler Fire Department (CFD) currently deploys ten fire engines and three aerial ladder trucks throughout the City. Each of these vehicles is equipped with vehicle extrication equipment ("jaws of life"), however, the majority of that equipment relies on outdated technology which reduces functionality and lengthens extrication time. The new equipment features a significant tool weight reduction and increased spreading and cutting strength. The deployment of this equipment will enhance the capabilities of all CFD fire crews as it relates to vehicle extrication and forcible entry.
In March 2022, CFD applied for and was awarded a grant from the Gila River Indian Community in the amount of $222,114 for the purpose of purchasing extrication-related equipment. These grant funds will be the funding source for this purchase.
