Proposed Motion:
Move City Council approve Resolution No. 5546, authorizing the submission of a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant, for the Child Safety Seat Clinic program, in the amount of $49,114, and authorizing the City Manager, or a designee, to perform grant-specific negotiations and submit documentation on behalf of the City of Chandler.
Background:
The Chandler Fire Department (CFD) will apply for a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant in the amount of $49,114 to continue its Child Safety Seat Clinics for the period of October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023. The program will be held primarily in the downtown Chandler Police Department parking lot, and will offer 42 child safety seat (CSS) inspection clinics and distribute up to 170 booster and infant seats to families in need.
All of CFD's child passenger safety technicians (CPST's) are certified (at CFD’s expense) and will participate in regional and community events sponsored by SafeKids, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, and other partners. CPST's will also provide public education to parents and caregivers on passenger safety, child safety seat installation, and child safety around vehicles via hands-on instruction and printed materials.
Discussion:
Move City Council approve Resolution No. 5546, authorizing the submission of a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant, for the Child Safety Seat Clinic program, in the amount of $49,114, and authorizing the City Manager, or a designee, to perform grant-specific negotiations and submit documentation on behalf of the City of Chandler.
Financial Implications:
This reimbursable grant does not require matching funds.
