City Council Memorandum Public Works & Utilities Memo No. UA25-085
Date:
June 12, 2025
To:
Mayor and Council
Thru:
Joshua H. Wright, City Manager
Andy Bass, Deputy City Manager
John Knudson, Public Works and Utilities Director
From:
Josef Kennis, Wastewater Facilities Manager
Subject:
Purchase of Replacement Furniture for Public Works and Utilities, Wastewater Collections Building
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council approve the purchase of replacement furniture for Public Works and Utilities, Wastewater Collections Building, utilizing State of Arizona Contract No. CTR067399, with Elontec, LLC, in an amount not to exceed $206,168.10.
Background/Discussion:
The Wastewater Collections Building (also known as Building J), located at 975 East Armstrong Way, has served the city reliably since its construction in 2000. However, after 25 years of use and only minimal interior updates, the facility is in critical need of renovation to meet current operational demands. The existing workstations are outdated, cannot be upgraded, and do not support current operational requirements. Additionally, certain furniture is damaged beyond repair and needs immediate replacement. To address these challenges, staff propose replacement of the current workstations and flooring, leveraging a new layout focused on maximizing space efficiency and improving employee productivity.
This project will also address the need for adequate meeting space for staff training, operational briefings, and capital improvement project planning. This renovation will extend the building’s useful life, support the city's long-term staffing goals, and foster a more productive work environment.
Evaluation:
The State of Arizona competitively solicited and awarded a contract for statewide furniture, products, and related services. The city has a current agreement with the State of Arizona allowing for the cooperative usage of the State's contracts. Staff recommend the cooperative use of this contract.
