Subject:
Resolution No. 5486, Approving an Amended and Restated Water Transportation Agreement Between Salt River Valley Water Users' Association and the City of Chandler
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council pass and adopt Resolution No. 5486,
approving an amended and restated Water Transportation Agreement between Salt River Valley Water Users' Association and the City of Chandler.
Background:
The Salt River Valley Water Users Association (Association) operates and maintains a series of large canals and smaller laterals and drain ditches to deliver water to its members. On September 10, 1991, Chandler entered into a Water Transportation Agreement (Agreement) with the Association. The terms of the Agreement were consistent with other Valley cities and only allow for water transportation in Association canals and not laterals or drain ditches.
The City and Association have agreed to amend the Agreement to include the transportation of City water in Association laterals and drain ditches and revise other terms of service related to the expanded service. If the City chooses to deliver water through Association laterals and drain ditches, a $10.55 fee will be applied for each acre-foot of water that is transported. Chandler does not currently use Association laterals and drain ditches, however, this amendment provides flexibility in the future if it is deemed necessary.
