Subject:
Resolution No. 5472, Approving an Intergovernmental Agreement Between the City of Chandler and Maricopa County, Acting Through the Maricopa County Department of Transportation, Regarding Cost Sharing for Improvements to Lindsay Road from Via De Palmas to Riggs Road in the Amount of $1,301,229.
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council pass and adopt Resolution No. 5472, approving an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Chandler and Maricopa County, acting through the Maricopa County Department of Transportation, regarding cost sharing for improvements to Lindsay Road from Via De Palmas to Riggs Road in the amount of $1,301,229.
Background/Discussion:
The Lindsay Road Improvements Project consists of widening Lindsay Road to a four-lane roadway from Ocotillo Road to Hunt Highway. Improvements include turn lanes; bike lanes; raised median; curb, gutter, and sidewalk; traffic signals; streetlights; storm drainage; landscape; irrigation; wet utilities; and dry utilities. Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is participating in the project cost, less City enhancements, because a portion of these improvements is adjacent to several parcels located in the unincorporated area and benefit the County residents. The City enhancements that MCDOT will not participate in include landscaping and streetlights. The MCDOT cost share payment will be available no later than July 1, 2027; this payment has been delayed due to Maricopa County financial considerations and project timing.
After completion of the project design and prior to construction, the City will process annexation of the Lindsay Road right-of-way and maintain the roadway in County jurisdiction.
A separate Intergovernmental Agreement is anticipated on a future City Council Consent Agenda for County right-of-way acquisition assistance for the project.
Financial Implications:
None.
