City Council Memorandum Public Works & Utilities Memo No. UA23-013
Date:
August 18, 2022
To:
Mayor and Council
Thru:
Joshua H. Wright, City Manager
Andy Bass, Deputy City Manager
John Knudson, Public Works and Utilities Director
From:
Danny Sargent, Water Systems Manager
Subject:
Purchase of Refrigerated Liquid Carbon Dioxide
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council approve the purchase of refrigerated liquid carbon dioxide, from Reliant Gases, Ltd., utilizing City of Glendale Contract No. C20-0792, in an amount not to exceed $300,000.
Background/Discussion:
Liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) is used routinely in water treatment processes to control pH and condition the water for further treatment. Both the Pecos Surface Water Treatment Plant and the Ocotillo Brine Reduction Facility use liquid CO2 as necessary to enhance and optimize the treatment processes. This contract will provide for purchase and delivery of the refrigerated liquid carbon dioxide for these two water treatment facilities for the next year.
The cost of liquid CO2 used by the OBRF will be reimbursed by Intel Corporation.
Evaluation:
The City of Glendale competitively solicited and awarded a contract for refrigerated liquid carbon dioxide. The City has a current agreement with the City of Glendale allowing for the cooperative use of the City of Glendale's contracts. The term of the City of Glendale contract is valid through September 21, 2023.
