Transportation Commission Government Relations & Transportation Policy Memo No. TP23-05
Date:
09/21/2022
To:
Transportation Commission
From:
Sasha Pachito, Transportation Planning Coordinator
Subject:
Intergovernmental agreement between the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and the City of Chandler for the Chandler Protected Bike Lanes Study.
Proposed Motion:
Move that the Transportation Commission recommend approval of the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) and the City of Chandler for the Chandler protected bike lanes feasibility study, with a local match not to exceed $4,560.
Background/Discussion
This project will provide a protected bike lane feasibility report for the City of Chandler. The Chandler Transportation Master Plan identified four protected bike lane corridors, however with feedback received from residents, the City would like to explore increasing the number of protected bike lanes.
Y2K Engineering was selected to complete this study. In the study, the consultant will analyze both existing and planned bike lanes on arterial and collector streets and determine which could be converted to a protected lane. Design criteria will be identified, and locations will be prioritized for implementation. This study will also provide high-level cost estimates for different types of protected bike lane facilities.
The City of Chandler was awarded design assistance funding in the amount of $75,440 from MAG for this study.
This agreement requires a local match of 5.7%, which is $4,560. Funding for this study is in this year’s budget with implementation funds programmed into the 10-year CIP.
