To:

Thru:

From:

Subject:
Resolution No. 5608 designating the City of Chandler Economic Development Division as Chandler’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) beginning July 1, 2022, and effective indefinitely; and authorizing the City Manager or the City Manager’s designee to execute any documents and instruments for purposes of this resolution.
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council pass and adopt Resolution No. 5608 designating the City of Chandler Economic Development Division as Chandler’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) effective July 1, 2022, for an indefinite period; and authorizing the City Manager or the City Manager’s designee to execute any documents and instruments for purposes of this resolution.
Background:
The City of Chandler’s Economic Development Division has worked with the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) since Fiscal Year 2000-2001 to promote and market Chandler as a tourism destination. The Division has received grant funding for tourism marketing through the Maricopa County Proposition 302 grant program, which is facilitated by the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT). The purpose of this item is to complete the required paperwork in order to continue to receive grant funding from AOT.
In FY 2021-2022, AOT notified staff that communities would be required to submit an annual, notarized affidavit to participate in any AOT programs, including but not limited to Proposition 302 funding, trade shows, co-operative marketing, and familiarization trips. For FY 2022-2023, AOT has notified communities that the required affidavit from each partner agency may be effective indefinitely or until a determined time as set forth by the local municipality.
Financial Implications:
The City received approval from AOT for projected FY 2022-2023 Proposition 302 funding for tourism marketing activities in the amount of $447,110, with minimum matching funds of $123,000. The City has also received approval from AOT for a Visit Arizona Initiative Marketing grant for tourism marketing activities in the amount of $248,824, with matching funds of $49,765. These funds are already budgeted for the current fiscal year.
