City Council Memorandum Fire Memo No.
Date:
September 22, 2022
To:
Mayor and Council
Thru:
Joshua H. Wright, City Manager
Thomas Dwiggins, Fire Chief
From:
Subject:
Resolution No. 5617 Authorizing The Acceptance Of Indian Gaming Revenue Sharing Grant Funds From Gila River Indian Community For The Purchase Of Extrication Equipment For The Chandler Fire Department In The Amount Of $222,114
Proposed Motion:
Move City Council pass and adopt Resolution No. 5617 authorizing the acceptance of Indian gaming revenue sharing grant funds from Gila River Indian Community in the amount of $222,114, for the purpose of supporting the purchase of advanced, battery-powered, vehicle extrication equipment for the Chandler Fire Department.
Background:
The purpose of the grant is to obtain funding for the purchase of battery-powered extrication equipment for all frontline ladder apparatus. The current extrication equipment carried on all frontline ladder apparatus, as well as the Department's backup equipment, is no longer current in capabilities for new vehicle construction and does not take advantage of new tool technology.
Discussion:
The GRIC grant will enable CFD to replace all outdated equipment with the newest technology in extrication tools. The new equipment has a significant tool weight reduction and has increased spreading and cutting strength. The deployment of this equipment will enhance the capabilities of all CFD fire crews as it relates to vehicle extrication and forcible entry.
Financial Implications:
This reimbursable grant does not require matching funds.
