Subject:

Purchase of Traffic Signal Poles and Components

Proposed Motion:

Move City Council approve the purchase of traffic signal poles and components, from Solar Traffic Controls, LLC, utilizing Maricopa County Agreement No. 200125-C, in an amount not to exceed $150,000.

Background/Discussion:

The Transportation Division maintains 70 speed reader boards on streets located throughout Chandler. The purpose of these boards is to advise motorists of their speed, thereby keeping vehicles within the posted speed limit and promoting safety. The boards are not part of the city's photo radar program for tracking and issuing citations at intersections.

Of these 70 speed reader boards, 30 are in need of replacement due to either system failure or the high cost and frequency of maintenance. The typical life span of these boards is approximately five years. This purchase will replace the 30 speed reader boards that are non-functioning or have surpassed their expected lifespan.

Evaluation:

Maricopa County, a member of the Strategic Alliance for Volume Expenditures (S.A.V.E.), competitively solicited and awarded a contract for traffic signal poles and components, from Solar Traffic Controls, LLC. The city is a member of S.A.V.E. and is eligible to utilize S.A.V.E. contracts cooperatively. The Maricopa County contract is valid through November 30, 2025.
