Land
Acknowledgment
The Flagstaff City Council humbly acknowledges the ancestral homelands of this area’s Indigenous nations and original stewards. These lands, still inhabited by Native descendants, border mountains sacred to Indigenous peoples. We honor them, their legacies, their traditions, and their continued contributions. We celebrate their past, present, and future generations who will forever know this place as home. |

Multicultural Park Sculpture Project Jana Weldon, Beautification, Arts & Sciences Program Manager and/or Cristen Crujido, Beautification, Arts & Sciences Project Administrator with the COF Beautification, Arts & Sciences will provide a update on the forthcoming Multicultural Park Sculpture Exhibition and discuss the FY 25-26 Call to Artists. Ms. Crujido gave a presentation on the upcoming Multicultural Park Sculpture Exhibition on May 17 at the Elizabeth Archuleta County Park. The Indigenous Commission is invited to attend the Opening Reception and Open House. She gave information on the featured artists and gave some descriptions of the art pieces. Ms. Crujido explained the process on how the discussions evolved and what they entailed. There was participation of several City Commission members as well as County Advisory Council members in the review of the applicants. The rest of the presentation included plans for next year's exhibition scheduled for May 2025-February 2026. This will include presentations to City of Flagstaff and Coconino County commissions and councils. Call to Artists will post the end of May 2024 with a deadline on June 27, 2024. Other key dates were also shared. The project vision was also explained with the park to have an annual exhibit and solidify as an outdoor sculpture venue in Northern Arizona. Thereafter a short Q & A followed. |

Tour at the Future Site of the Indigenous Community Cultural Center (ICCC) PROSE staff member will provide a tour at the Thorpe Park parcel. This is located at the Sustainability office area. The tour will give a better idea on the state of the site and building. Amy Hagin, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, PROSE, conducted a short update on the ICCC, followed by a tour of the ICCC building. Updates included some cost related work to be provided: IT lines and relocation; facility assessment; and further meetings on the RFP. Ms. Hagin explained to the Commissioners each segment of the building with a walk through on the inside and outside of the building. Ms. Hagin expanded on the area that could offer an immediate place to occupy while other parts will take longer to mitigate and restore for full use. She talked about aspects of the accepted concept plan and the need to get the procurement process going. Once completed, the procurement process will identify a partner organization who will help to start the next part of improvements and find other funding or grants for restoration of the building. PROSE plans to be in front of City Council in September 2024 for approval. The restoration process could take years but if the partnership is active, this could be much sooner for the building to get to full restoration and full use. There was Q & A throughout the walk through. PROSE will keep Ms. Toehe involved and updated so the Commission can stay informed. |
