MINUTES
The Garland Cultural Arts Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at The Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, in the meeting room with the following members:

Motion was made by
Commission member Blanca Sanchez,
and seconded by
Commission member Mitch Carr that the approval of the minutes from October 4, 2022 be accepted as amended.

ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION
a.
Director's Report
Amy Rosenthal, Cultural Arts Director, reported on items 1-6
1.
City Update & Staff Introductions
It was announced that the City Manager, Bryan Bradford, was retiring. His replacement will be Judson Rex.
The Cultural Arts Managing Director, Andy Hesser, would be assuming the role of Assistant City Manager.
The new Cultural Arts Marketing Supervisor, Dominique Stansberry, was introduced.

Events, Attendance, Operations report with New System
Commissioners were given handouts of the attendance from the new VenueOps booking system
3.
Public Art Process
A discussion was held about the Cultural Arts Plan's Public Art Process item regarding the City of Garland's needs for a more streamlined approach. An order of submittal was discussed with the emphasis that at least one Commissioner would be on the panel for each proposed art work area.
4.
Cultural District Designation
Emphasis that one of the Cultural Arts Plan goals was to seek out the Cultural District Designation. A letter is being sent with the intent of seeking that Designation. The process was outlined with a time-line and benefits of that designation was discussed.
5.
Upcoming Events
Dates of City events as well as upcoming shows were discussed.
6.
Marketing Outlets
A discussion of social media outlets and the Cities restrictions on social media was had. At this time Facebook is the only one that we use.

Business Council on the Arts Update
Commissioner Chip Van Pelt spoke on the presentations that he attended: Fundraising; Art & Social Impact; Arts
Stillary???
; Dallas Black Film Festival. All discussed the impact of the Arts in each area and the responsibilities of the Boards.

Meeting Dates Reminders
Meeting and strategy dates were presented.
d.
Suggestions for Items for Future Meetings
Revisit the Artist Directory - How do we revamp it to get new Artists

Commission member Felicia Fuller to adjourn the meeting of the Cultuaral Arts Commissionat 5:38pm.
