MINUTES     The Community Multicultural Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023, in the City Council Work Session Room, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:
Present: Elvia Flores, Commission Member     Bashir Ashimi, Board Member     Merrill Balanciere, Board Member     Isaac Abu, Board Member     CorSharra Jackson, Board Member     Mindy Le, Board Member     Liz Harling, Board Member     Kymberlaine Banks, Board Member     Rene Dowl, Staff Liaison     Jasmine Sanchez, Board Member   Absent: Jennifer Nguyen, Board Member   Tiffany Lam, Board Member   Charles Pickitt, Board Member   Justina James, Board Member

1.				APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of the minutes of the October 20 and November 17 meetings.

				Motion was made by Board Member Liz Harling, and seconded by Commission Member Elvia Flores

				Vote: 8 - 0
2.				ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION
	a.			UPDATE ON VIDEO PROJECT (LE)
				Nick Gibson is preparing the final edits for the "You Belong Here" short film.
	b.			RETREAT DISCUSSION
				The Commission discussed Saturday, February 25, 2023, or March 11, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon as tentative dates for the Community Multicultural Commission Retreat. The first hour of the retreat will be a Question and Answer session with Mayor Scott LeMay and new City Manager Judson Rex regarding their roles within the city.  The remainder of the retreat will be a discussion among members of the Community Multicultural Commission regarding future items for discussion and events.
	c.			MULTICULTURAL FILM FESTIVAL
				Staff liaison informed the committee, Amy Rosenthal will attend a future meeting to discuss a potential date for the Film Festival.
3.				UPCOMING EVENTS 1. Public Input meeting for the Senior Center, January 24, 5:30-8 p.m. (Granger) 2. Public Input meeting for the Senior Center, January 26, 5:30-8 p.m. (Audubon) 3. Retirement Celebration for Bryan Bradford, City Manager, February 9, 2023, 2 to4 p.m. (Location TBD) 4. NAACP Winter Ball, February 17, 2023, Hyatt Place Hotel 5. GP&L, 100th Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, April 15, 2-7 p.m.

				With no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
