NOMINATION(S) FOR CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR The nominating committee will consist of Member volunteers: Mindy Le, Justina James and Merrill Balanciere. Motion was made by Member Ashimi, that the elections will take place on November 17 at 6:00 p.m. before the Boards and Commission dinner, seconded by Member Flores. Motion carried unanimously. |

PUBLIC & MEDIA RELATIONS PROJECT (Item b addressed before Item a) DFW StratComm communications project - update (Dorothy White) Ms. White provided an update on the survey responses and asked for assistance in getting more diversity in the responses. There was extensive discussion regarding how to increase this participation. |

MULTICULTURAL FILM FESTIVAL Discussion / Update Ms. Dowl will inquire with Amy Rosenthal to confirm if the former director informed her of his discussion with CMC about a cultural film festival. |

CMC 20TH ANNIVERSARY The 20th Anniversary ad hoc committee members (Mindy, Isaac, Elvia and CorSharra) will meet after the meeting and schedule meeting dates. CorSharra is absent for this meeting and will be briefed later. |

2023 RETREAT Establish date, time and discuss recommendations for a speaker. The consensus of the committee is to have the retreat on February 11 or 18, :900 a.m. to 12 noon. Potential speakers are: 1) Pedro Barineau (UNIDOS), 2) Garland Independent School District Staff for discussions on diversity in the district and 3) a person who will discuss multicultural resources in the City, and providing more awareness for those resources. |

PROPOSED 2023 MEETING SCHEDULE A motion was made by Member Harling to maintain meeting dates on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m., seconded by Member Le. The motion carried unanimously. It was raised that 9/21/2023, is North Texas Giving Day and the meeting may be rescheduled. |

UPCOMING EVENTS 1. Oktoberfest, "Taste of Garland" Oct. 22, 6-9 p.m., The Atrium 2. Dia de Los Muertas, Nov. 1, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Granville Arts Center 2. Boards and Commissions Dinner, Thursday, Nov. 17, 7 p.m., The Atrium 3. IL Texas GHS International Festival, Friday, Nov. 18 4. Firewheel Christmas, Thursday, Dec. 1, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. 5. Martin Luther King Parade 6. NAACP Winter Ball Vice Chair Nguyen encouraged the group to attend the IL Texas Festival. She also announced DFW Night Market, on October 28 and 29 in the Cali Saigon mall parking lot from 6:00 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., she will email a flyer to the recording secretary to distribute. The commission discussed participation in the MLK parade and Member Le will complete the registration form to participate; the group will use member vehicles in the parade. Vice Chair Nguyen will contact Parks about use of a truck. The commission discussed having an informal social gathering on December 15. |
