MINUTES
The Community Multicultural Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, in the Work Session, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Approval of the minutes of the January 19, meeting.
The motion was made by Mindy Le to approve the minutes with corrections, seconded by Corsharra Prenell. Motion carried unanimously.
2.
ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION
A. Video Project Review (Le)
Mindy Le provided an update on the project, stated the first draft will be ready for review as soon as February; the video is ninety seconds. Ms. Le
proposed a preview at a plaza film, public or other art event. There was consensus to request this be on the Work Session agenda.
B. Retreat Planning
It was the consensus of the Commission to have the retreat on March 11, inviting Jud Rex, City Manager and Mayor LeMay to speak to the Commission for one hour on the roles of the Manager and Mayor, in conjunction with their expectations for the CMC.
C. Multicultural Film Festival:
Awaiting
a discussion/proposal from the Arts Director, Amy Rosenthal at the March meeting.
D. 20th Anniversary Celebration Discussion:
Elvia Flores,
Corsharra
Jackson, Justina James and
Bashir
Ashimi
continue to work as the subcommittee on this project. Chair Banks will contact
Dana
Lodge, Director of Convention and Visitors Bureau for dates to consider for this event.
3.
OTHER AND NEW BUSINESS
There was discussion on the GLOWS warming station and connecting to be involved.
The Commission discussed having a job fair in Garland, with Liz Harling contacting the Work Force Commission and the Chamber of Commerce.
There was discussion regarding: 1) Good Samaritan's Murder Mystery, 2) Mayor's State of the City and 3) Together We Dine; Elvia Flores will contact Citizens Police Academy about conversations related to cultural incidents with African Americans.

UPCOMING EVENTS
1. NAACP Winter Ball, February 17, at 7 p.m., Hyatt Place Hotel
2. GP&L 100th Anniversary Celebration, Saturday, April 15, 2-7 p.m.
3. May 6 General Election
Other events:
1. UNIDOS to be added to all future events
2. March-April NAACP meetings, last Tuesday of each month
3. City Press, adding events their and on other platforms
4. Public input meeting for the Senior Center rescheduled

ADJOURN:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, Chair Banks adjourned the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
