MINUTES
The Board of Adjustment of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in the City Council Chambers, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:

Consideration of the minutes for the February 15, 2023 meeting.

Vice Chair Bruce Bishop,
and seconded by
Board Member Wesley Johnson to approve the minutes as presented.

APPLICATIONS
A.
23-MA-00001 – 1325 Briarwood Dr
.
Maria De Lourdes Gonzalez, the owner of Lot 33 Block A, in the Saturn Springs Estates Addition, more commonly known as 1325 Briarwood Dr., is requesting permission to maintain a 540 sq. ft. metal carport in the rear yard of the residence adjacent to Saturn Rd. Section 2.59(A)(3) of the Garland Development Code prohibits metal carports from being located in the rear yard unless they have access from a paved alley. A variance to allow the carport of metal material would be necessary to allow the carport to remain on the property.
Daniel Villanueva of 1325 Briarwood Dr, Garland, TX, was present to testify on behalf of Maria De Lourdes Gonzalez.
Motion was made by
Board Member Wesley Johnson,
and seconded by
Board Member Herman Puckett to deny the variance request.
Vote:

Motion was made by
Vice Chair Bruce Bishop,
and seconded by
Board Member Susan Nye to approve the variance request with stipulations. The applicant will need to add concrete and obtain a structural engineer's report to ensure that the entire structure is in compliance with IRC regulations.

Review of amendments to the Policy and Procedures of the Board of Adjustment.

Board Member Wesley Johnson approve the Policy and Procedures as presented by the City Attorney
