MINUTES
The Community Multicultural Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the Work Session, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Approval of the minutes of the April 20, 2023, meeting.
The motion was made by Member Pickitt to approve the minutes, seconded by Vice Chair Prenell. The motion carried unanimously.

ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION
a. FILM PROJECT UPDATE
Final edits for production
There was discussion on the call to action at the end of the video and the consideration of a survey conneciton.
b.
ANNUAL CMC RETREAT (Chair Banks)
The Commission will discuss its mission and goals for the remainder of 2023, to include setting a date to meet with Mayor LeMay and City Manager Rex.
c. 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION (Justina James)
Ms. James will contact Amy Rosenthal, Director of Cultural Arts, to schedule a meeting to discuss including this celebration with an existing event.
d. JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Volunteer Activities: set-up, greet citizens, engage citizens to come to the table, administer the fun facts game, distribute 'did you know flyer', answer questions about the celebration, citizens/vendor survey engagement, and clean-up.

There was discussion about the event and Commission members were encouraged to sign up as volunteers.

NEW BUSINESS
Vice Chair Prenell proposed research to consider a mural project depicting Garland's diversity.

ADJOURN:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, Chair Banks adjourned the meeting at 7 p.m.
