MINUTES
The Community Multicultural Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in the Public & Media Relations Conference Room, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:

BREAKFAST AND ICE-BREAKER (8:30 - 9:00 A.M.)
The Commission will complete a personality exercise during the breakfast session.
The Commission completed the exercise and individually discussed the outcomes of the test. The exercise was provided to have better insight and understanding; to be more collaborative and inclusive.

ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION
a.
DISCUSSION WITH MAYOR AND MANAGER
Expectation of the City Council
Vision for CMC from the Council
Partnerships
Mayor LeMay presented remarks on the events by previous Commissions. He encouraged the Commission to form partnerships with other community leaders in the city.
City Manager Rex confirmed his support of the Commission and commitment to its work. He also informed the Commission that funding will be provided for the mural the Commission will display at the October 14 opening of the Downtown Square.
b.
BYLAWS
The Commission will review the Bylaws for potential updates and revisions.
The Commission agreed to table the review of the Bylaws until a later meeting.
c.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Commission will review the current Mission Statement to simplify its message.
The Commission discussed the intent and meaning of their mission statement. There was a collaboration with the Commission to rewrite their mission statement to read "This mission of the Community Multicultural Commission shall be to maximize the potential, inclusion, and quality of life for all citizens."
d.
BUDGET
The Commission will decide if it will expense its remaining funds for items to be given away at the Oct. 14 reopening of the Downtown Square.
The Commission discussed purchasing various promotional items to be given away the October 14 reopening of the Downtown Square and future City sponsored events.
