MINUTES

The Community Multicultural Commission of the City of Garland convened in regular session at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023, in the Work Session Room, 200 North Fifth Street, Garland, Texas, with the following members:

PUBLIC COMMENTS

Persons who desire to address the Committee on any item on the agenda are allowed three minutes to speak. Testimony may be held until the item is considered or given at the beginning of any committee meeting. Invited testimony may also occur at any time, subject to a request of the Member of the Committee and with the approval of the Committee Chairperson.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Approval of the minutes from the July 20, 2023, meeting.

ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION

Discuss Retreat Action Items

The Commission will discuss and decide the release date for the "You Belong Here" video.

Mural Project

Staff will provide an update on the Mural Project.

Budget - Select giveaway items for October 14

Staff will provide information on items to consider for purchase.

Potential Events for Participation

North Texas 9/11 National Day of Service (911day.org)

Voter Registration Awareness Month, discuss hosting or participating in an event.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

1. Opening of the Downtown Square, Saturday, October 14, 10:00 a.m. and culminate that evening with LeAnn Rimes as the headline performer.

2. UNIDOS: Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m., Ashlock Room, Garland Police Department, 1891 Forest Lane.

3. Boards and Commissions Dinner, Thursday, November 16 at The Atrium, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

4. NAACP: Last Tuesday of each month (virtual)
