CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Wilson called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m.

Resident Mr. Ron Wilks attended the meeting and spoke to the Commission about pickleball. Mr. Wilks gave a pickleball 2022 recap stating how it has grown, developed and expanded in popularity. Mr. Wilks stated there are approximately 170 players with more people of all ages joining. He also stated there are pickleball special events occurring. Mr. Wilks gave thanks to Director Nathan Torres and Deputy Director David Seid for their support and also commended Recreation Superintendent Deanna Ortiz for her assistance with the program.

Master Plan Update (Project Manager Diana Vasquez)
Diana Vasquez gave an updated Master Plan presentation:
-A statistically relevant survey was taken in the city of Goodyear, 603 surveys were received, with representation from all ages and demographics, representative of all Goodyear communities.
-91% responded that high quality park and trail experiences are important to the quality of life.
-Survey rated existing conditions of the majority of park facilities with excellent ratings.
-Survey indicated 60% desire trails/walking paths, 47% desire open space/natural areas, and 40% desire community parks as the top 3 new amenities.
-Survey indicated 52% desire special events, 36% desire nature-base education activities, and 34% desire arts & culture programs as the top 3 programs.
-Survey indicated 89% desire Farmer's markets, 64% music, and 62% holidays as the top 3 events.
-Diana stated next steps will be to finalize the Master Plan to present to Council for adoption.
-Diana will send out the Master Plan to the commissioners for review prior to meeting one more time possibly in January for commission support.

Review and Approve the Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission 2023 Meeting Calendar (Chairman Wilson)
-Commissioners discussed the 2023 meeting calendar and agreed to table the approval of the 2023 meeting calendar until the next meeting on February 8, 2023.
-Commissioners agreed that since there are two new commissioners coming on board, it would be good to have their input also.

David Seid facilitated the nomination process, briefly covering some of the duties of the Chairman and Vice Chairman.
-Vice Chairman Hohman volunteered to serve as Chairman.
-Commissioner Cox nominated Commissioner Gonzales to serve as Vice Chairman, and he accepted.

Parks & Recreation Department Updates (Deputy Director David Seid)
-David Seid gave these Parks & Recreation updates:
-Goodyear Recreation Campus is closed for warranty repairs, scheduled to be reopened January 2, 2023.
-Goodyear Civic Square (GSQ) holiday events and decorations are spectacular.
-Goodyear's Super Bowl event is February 11, 2023, at GSQ with games and entertainment.
-David gave recognition to Commissioner Kim Harris, presenting her with a plaque at her last meeting with the Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission, after serving eight years as a commissioner.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting is scheduled for February 8, 2023, at the Goodyear Recreation Campus (GRC) at 5:30 p.m.

There being no further business to discuss, Chairman Wilson adjourned the meeting at 6:29 p.m.
