GOODYEAR MUNICIPAL COURT FY22 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Presiding Judge Mayra Galindo presented information to the Council on the services provided by the Goodyear Municipal Court.
Judge
Galindo
spoke about the Veteran's Events and Regional Homeless court. She spoke about the audits that the Court had been responsive to and the requirements of the Administrative Office of the Courts. She added that there had been an increase in caseloads, foot traffic and in-person appearances which also required an increase in Public Defender services.
Judge
Galindo
spoke about space planning for future growth needed at the court's current location and ab
out the next fiscal years' goals including the action on the findings of an Operational Review conducted by the Administrative Office of the Courts.
Council inquired about the ODR program that allowed for persons who lived over 100 miles away to be seen, specifically for criminal speed violations. Court Administrator Crystal Whelan provided additional information and explained that it was an overwhelming program and to continue it would require more staffing. In response to a Council question about the staffing, Ms.
Whelan
spoke about a class and compensation study that had been completed and the subsequent finding which included an increase in compensation and staffing.
Council verified that the Court is part of the Facilities Master Plan and confirmed the space needs will be addressed.
Council thanked the Judicial Advisory Committee for their work and their presence at this meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Mayor Pizzillo adjourned the Work Session at 5:47 p.m.
