COMMISSIONERS WILL NOMINATE AND APPOINT PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN FOR 2025. (CHAIRMAN GONZALES)
Commissioner Cox nominated Commissioner Millette to serve as Chair for 2025. Chairman Gonzales self-nominated for the position of Vice Chair. Commissioner Cox also self-nominated for Vice Chair but withdrew his nomination upon learning of Chairman Gonzales' self-nomination. Commissioner Millette expressed his gratitude for being considered for the Chair nomination and shared his appreciation for the opportunity to work alongside the commissioners.

COMMISSIONERS WILL REVIEW AND APPROVE THE PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMISSION 2025 MEETING CALENDAR (CHAIRMAN GONZALES)
Parks & Recreation Deputy Director David Seid presented the proposed 2025 calendar for review. Commissioners discussed the current meeting schedule, including days and times. The commission agreed to maintain the existing schedule, with meetings held on Wednesdays at the same time and location. Commissioner Cox suggested revisiting the discussion in 2025 to include input from the full commission, including newly appointed members.

COMMISSIONERS WILL DISCUSS GOALS, AGENDA ITEMS, AND PRESENTATIONS FOR 2025 (DEPUTY DIRECTOR DAVID SEID)
Commissioners Hohman and Wilson requested additional information regarding safety and security concerns at the Goodyear Recreation Campus. Commissioners Cox and Millette expressed interest in a presentation on the Parks and Recreation Department’s strategic plan, including updates on its progress and the department’s direction for 2025. Commissioner Cox also suggested that staff provide the commission with more details about volunteer opportunities and notify them in advance when staff presentations are scheduled for City Council meetings, allowing commissioners to attend either in person or virtually.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR SEID WILL GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE I-10 SPORTS COMPLEX (DEPUTY DIRECTOR DAVID SEID)
Parks & Recreation Deputy Director David Seid provided an update on the I-10 Sports Complex. He reported that the city issued a Request for Information (RFI) and received several responses. Staff conducted in-person interviews with respondents and are continuing to gather additional information from those discussions which may lead to the requests for proposals. Mr. Seid assured the commission that he would keep them informed with updates as new developments occur.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR SEID WILL GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE BULLARD WASH TRAIL EXTENSION (DEPUTY DIRECTOR DAVID SEID)
Deputy Director David Seid provided an update on the Bullard Wash Trail Extension project. He shared that a design firm has been selected, and staff is currently negotiating the scope, schedule, and fees. The proposed design is expected to go before the Council for consideration in January 2025. He assured the commission that updates on the design progress will be shared as they become available.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR SEID WILL GIVE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATES (DEPUTY DIRECTOR DAVID SEID)
Parks & Recreation Deputy Director David Seid shared updates on the Parks & Recreation Department. He announced that the Christmas tree at Civic Square has been officially lit for the Holidays on the Square event and encouraged commissioners to visit. He noted that holiday activities are scheduled to continue through December 20. Additionally, he informed the group that the Goodyear Recreation Center will be closed for maintenance from December 24 through January 2, with pass holders receiving a two-week membership extension. Lastly, he highlighted that preparations for spring training at the Ballpark are in full swing as the upcoming season approaches.
Mr. Seid thanked Commissioner Beckles for her time on the commission and welcomed Mary Sarkis.
Mr. Cox expressed his appreciation to Commissioner Wilson for his contributions to the commission. He also congratulated staff and the Arts and Culture Commission on receiving an award from the Arizona Parks & Recreation Association for the Juneteenth Event.
Commissioner Beckles shared her appreciation for serving on the commission.
INFORMATION ITEMS
Commissioner Wilson updated the group on the Fantasy Fitness contest stating his team received second place.

The next meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Chairman Jose Gonzales adjourned the meeting at 6:26 p.m.
