SELECT ARTIST FOR LIGHT POLE BANNER PUBLIC ART PROJECT (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator) |
|
Coordinator Ruiz provided an overview of the Light Pole Banner public art project and presented the 20 submissions. The Public Art Subcommittee members scored each applicant, and the top four artists were selected: Steven Deschenes, Anthony Farias, Lilyana Vera, and Kelsey Phillips. |

UPDATE FY24 ANNUAL PUBLIC ART PLAN (Layne Ruiz, Coordinator) |
|
Coordinator Ruiz reviewed th FY23 Annual Public Art Plan and heard suggestions from the subcommittee on updates needed for the FY24 Public Art Plan. Commissioner Barnes suggested that the Arts and Culture Commission goals should tie into Councils' strategic goals and should incorporate economic growth and having art at the forefront of planning as the city expands. Chairman Fee suggested that Arts for all should encompass students through seniors. Administrator Ozlanski provided updates on requested supplementals for FY24 including additional Traffic Cabinet artwork, a mosaic mural at Fire Station 182 and experiential temporary public art. |

SELECT PUBLIC ARTIST FOR UPCOMING ESTRELLA BRIDGE PROJECT(Layne Ruiz, Coordinator) |
|
Administrator Ozlanski provided an update on the Estrella Bridge Project. The bridge will provide additional lanes of traffic on Estrella Parkway. Goodyear is currently in the pre-design phase, with construction beginning early 2025. Ozlanski presented the ten artists provided by Haydon Building Corp, and the Public Art Committee discussed each artist. The committee selected Barbara Drygrutis as their top artist for this project. The committee members praised her past work and experience, and were happy to find she is a local artist. Co lab was ranked as a second choice, and Jeff Zischke was ranked as third as they are all local artists with great transportation project experience. |
