NEW PARKS AND RECREATION STAFF INTRODUCTIONS Two (2) new recreation coordinators (Kirk Fallon & Cassandra Brown) will be introduced to the commission. (David Seid, Deputy Director) -Introduced Cassandra Brown as the aquatic's coordinator and Kirk Fallon as operations coordinator. They both shared their background, and they come with a wealth of experience. |

PARKS AND RECREATION SUMMER EVENTS UPDATES Parks & Recreation staff will provide a presentation on upcoming summer events. (David Seid, Deputy Director) -Richard Ortiz, Recreation Coordinator presented on the summer recreation summer camps. -This year Trivium Preparatory Academy and Mobile Elementary School were added to the existing 3 locations, Copper Trails, Centerra Mirage, & Basis Goodyear. -The goal is to provide a supervised, safe, and fun environment with trained staff for the youth to partake in. -All locations offer a variety of activities, arts & crafts, video, board, & gym games, pool days, plus 5 field trips are planned. -There are 435 spots and all sites are full to capacity. -Jr. Leader Program, ages 13-14, is for youth volunteers to gain skill development and have an opportunity to become a future staff member. -Cassandra Brown, Aquatics Coordinator presented on the aquatics program. -Open swim at aquatics center opened on April 1st - October 29th, with year-round lap swim. -Loma Linda pool will open May 29th - July 30th. -This summer wristbands will not be utilized at GRC, only on the holiday weekends. -Spring swim lessons started and classes are full, with summer and fall sessions to follow. -100 free swim lessons offered through the Michael Phelps Foundation at Loma Linda Pool, plus mental, physical health lessons and goal setting will be offered. -Jr. Guard is a volunteer program, 4-day class for lifeguard and instructor development and the youth will have an opportunity to become a future staff member. -Kirk Fallon, Operations Coordinator presented on Teen Programming. -There is a new program, the 8eleven room for ages 8-11. -It is an activity room where the youth can play video and PC games, and partake in art projects, Mon-Fri, 3-8pm, while their parents' workout. -For teens ages 13-17, there is a variety of activities that will be offered. -Teen swim night pool party for 100 teens; monthly teen trips to various places, beginning with Castle & Coasters. -Teens will be able to safely use the fitness floor and take group classes, E-Sports tournament, and GRC-U volunteer program for teens to learn and prepare for a part-time job. -Members will be able to partake in the 100 days of summer fitness challenge by participating in GRC group exercise classes to win prizes and swag. -GRC implemented enhanced security measures for safety. There is dedicated security guard Mon-Fri, 12pm-8pm, and all patrons who enter the GRC facility will need to scan in with a GRC ID. -Chairman Hohman suggested a follow-up discussion on the effectiveness of the security guard. Deputy Director David Seid stated that a follow-up could be added to the June commission meeting agenda. -Commissioner Beard asked if there is policy to address consequences of bad behavior. David stated that there is a code of conduct policy and will follow up with sending the policy to all commissioners. -There will be a Juneteenth celebration on June 19th at 6am-4pm. |

GOODYEAR BOND COMMITTEE UPDATE Commissioner Cox will provide an update on the Goodyear Bond Committee. (John Cox, Commissioner) -Commissioner Cox presented on the 2023 Citizen Bond Exploratory Committee recommendations. -City Council is exploring the authorization of bond debt to fund public improvements, the last authorization was in 2004. -The committee is tasked with recommending: bond authorization amounts for public improvement short term projects (2-5) years; produce a list of public improvements; and devise language for the 2023 November election ballot. -Committee will recommend to Council to authorize 232 million in bonds. -Based on polling and presentations, committee is recommending to fund these projects to Council: 95 million to transportation; 91 million to police/fire; and 17 million to parks Bullard Wash development. -Committee plans to present the recommendations to Council, later in April. -Upon Council approval, the authorization will be on the ballot in November, 2023. |

PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN UPDATE Deputy Director David Seid will provide a Parks Master Plan status update, including next steps. (David Seid, Deputy Director) -Deputy Director David Seid stated that the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting scheduled on May 17th, is a special meeting to present the draft Master Plan to commissioners before going to Council for approval. -David stated that the Master Plan draft will be sent out before the meeting, so commissioners will have a chance to review prior to meeting. |

PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATES Deputy Director David Seid will provide Parks & Recreation Department updates. (David Seid, Deputy Director) -The City of Goodyear budget session goes before Council on April 17th, at City Hall. -Hop & Hops event was a success with a huge turnout. The events group will debrief and assess the pros and cons and will make necessary improvements. |

Commissioner Wilson shared that he was in contact with an organization that is interested in connecting walking and bike trails together. He will share more information as he learns more.
