Consider a resolution adopting Paid Quarantine Leave for firefighters, peace officers and emergency medical technicians, pursuant to Texas Local Government Code, Section 180.008.
Item Summary
Texas Local Government Code Section 180.008 requires the City to adopt a Paid Quarantine Leave Policy for firefighters, peace officers and emergency medical technicians, who are employed by, appointed by, or elected to the City, and ordered to quarantine or isolate, due to a possible or known exposure to a communicable disease while on duty.
According to Texas Local Government Code, Section 180.008(c), a City of Lubbock firefighter, peace officer or emergency medical technician who is ordered to quarantine or isolate by the person’s supervisor or the City Public Health Authority, due to a possible or known exposure to a communicable disease while on duty, is entitled to receive Paid Quarantine Leave for the duration of the quarantine leave.
In accordance with this policy, the City of Lubbock will not reduce sick leave balance, vacation leave balance, holiday leave balance, or any other paid leave balance, of any firefighter, peace officer, or emergency medical technician, in connection with Paid Quarantine Leave.
Fiscal Impact
The monetary impact is minimal and will be absorbed in each department (Fire/Police) budget.
