Resolution - Engineering:
Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Change Order No. 2 to Contract 15243, with Garney Construction, for additional field services related to the Demolition of Pump Station No. 7 and Water Line Replacement.
Item Summary
On June 9, 2020, the City Council approved Contract 15243 with Garney Construction, Inc., which was submitted in response to RFP-15243-JM, for providing construction services for the demolition of Pump Station 7, which was constructed in the 1950s, and associated water line replacements. The construction project will completely remove Pump Station 7 and the associated equipment, piping, electrical equipment, pumps, motors, instrumentation, and existing ground storage tanks, as well as restore the site to green field conditions. Along with the abandonment of Pump Station 7, some necessary piping modifications and replacements of roughly 1,400 linear feet of a 24-inch water main needs to be replaced, in order to maintain a reliable water source to Pump Station 16.
Change Order No. 1 was authorized by the City Council for two modifications, to account for unexpected site conditions and emergency work/repairs. The net increase in contract price due to Change Order No. 1 was $409,319.14 with 10 additional days of construction time.
Change Order No. 2 will incorporate the replacement of a 24-inch valve and 210 linear feet of pipe that has met its service life, and the addition of 335 feet of fencing. This final change order will also reconcile Contract 15243 and account for quantity adjustments made during the project.
Staff negotiated Change Order No. 2 with Garney Construction, in the amount of $103,447.99, for additional services required to complete the demolition and water line replacement project with 90 additional calendar days.
Fiscal Impact
$44,850,000 is appropriated in Capital Improvement Project 92255, BCWF Supply Line/ Pumping System with $103,447.99 available for this purpose.
