Consider a resolution authorizing Floyd Mitchell, Chief of Police, to apply for and execute an agreement with the State of Texas, Office of the Governor’s Bullet-Resistant Shield Grant Program for FY 2023, to fund the purchase of ballistic shields for the City of Lubbock Police Department.
Item Summary
This resolution grants permission to the City of Lubbock Police Department (LPD), to apply for $260,037.58 in grant funds from the State of Texas, Office of the Governor's Bullet-Resistant Shield Grant Program for FY 2023. The Lubbock Police Department will manage this grant.
If awarded, the grant funding will enable the department to purchase 40 Paraclete Vanguard Level III 20x30 ballistic shields, with viewpoint and light, at a cost of $6,373.47 per shield. The shields will be dispersed among the LPD Special Response Group, LPD SWAT Team, and LPD Division Stations.
The grant is contingent on all City of Lubbock employees completing cybersecurity training at a 100% level, during this Fiscal Year 2022-23.
Fiscal Impact
If approved, the State could provide the Lubbock Police Department with up to $260,037.58 to fund the above described project, and this grant will not require a local match.
