Consider a resolution authorizing Floyd Mitchell, Chief of Police, to apply for and execute an agreement with the State of Texas, Office of the Governor’s Homeland Security Grant Program FY 2023 for the Reconnaissance Robot Grant Project, for the City of Lubbock Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team.
Item Summary
Approval of this resolution authorizes Chief Mitchell to apply for $35,000 in grant funding from the State of Texas Office of the Governor. The Lubbock Police Department (LPD) is approved to apply for these funds, and LPD will manage this grant.
If awarded, the grant funding will allow the Department to purchase 2 Reconnaissance Robots and the associated accessory packs. The cost of each robot is $16,270, and the cost of related/required accessories is $3,720 for a total cost of $36,700.
The remaining cost of $1,700 for the purchase, will be funded by the LPD Operating Budget.
The Robots will be used during LPD SWAT Team operations and will be available for use by regional agencies by request, as required by the Homeland Security Grant Program.
The grant is contingent on all City of Lubbock employees completing cybersecurity training at a 100% level.
Fiscal Impact
If approved, the State grant would provide the Lubbock Police Department with up to $35,000 dollars to be used toward the purchase of this equipment. This grant will not require a local match.
