The City of Lubbock is hosting the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Lubbock Triathlon. The event is scheduled to take place in the City of Lubbock on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Organizers anticipate 2,000 athletes to participate in this one-day event. The event will incorporate a 1.2-mile swim at Canyon Lake #6, a 56-mile bike ride into Lubbock County and back into City limits, and a 13-mile run ending on the Texas Tech University campus. The proposed resolution authorizes the Mayor to execute an agreement with the State of Texas acting through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), for the temporary closure of the following locations during the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Lubbock Triathlon. State right-of-ways: East 19th; FM 1729; FM 3523; FM 400; FM 40; and FM 378 Intersections: US 62/SH 114 (East 19th) and Canyon Lakes Drive; US 82 (Parkway Drive) and Cesar Chavez Drive; IH 27 and Cesar Chavez Drive; US 82 (MSF) and Buddy Holly Ave; IH 27 & East Broadway; and US 84 (Ave Q) and Glenna Goodacre Blvd. This agreement is in the best interest of the public safety and welfare of the citizens of Lubbock, to expedite all other traffic matters related to the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Lubbock Triathlon. |
