On May 26, 2026, the City Council approved the first reading of the ordinance.
The City of Lubbock is in receipt of a request to abandon and close a portion of the right-of-way of 133rd Street, 134th Street, 135th Street, and 136th Street, west of Elgin Avenue.
The total area of right-of-way being closed is 4,020 square feet. Based on adjacent land values, the Right-of-Way Department valued the closure at $0.50 per square foot, with a 50% discount for easement dedications.
The right-of-way and the easement are 4,020 square feet at $0.50 per square foot, less the 50% discount = $1,005.00.
The proponent, AMD Engineering, LLC, desires to close the streets due to a new design for Viridian, Lots 211-344, and these rights-of-way are no longer needed. To cover existing utilities, the proponent is granting Underground Utility Easements.
All City departments and franchise utility companies are in agreement with the closure.
