Resolution - Solid Waste Services:
Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Contract 16734 with South Plains College (SPC) and Career Education, Inc, dba ATDS, to conduct Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training through
SPC's
driving school operated by ATDS.
Item Summary
The program will allow the City of Lubbock to register employees in the program to receive training approved by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration to receive a CDL-B Commercial Driver's License. The City of Lubbock Solid Waste Department will begin hiring employees who do not currently possess a CDL-B Commercial Driver's License and will enroll them in the training program offered by SPC and operated by ATDS. These employees will be given the required training, both classroom and driving, and will receive a CDL-B Commercial Driver's License upon successful completion of the course. The City will provide a garbage truck for use onsite by City employees in the course of the training. The City Solid Waste Department will utilize vacant positions within the department for these students and each student will have 90 days to successfully obtain a CDL-B Commercial Driver's License.
Fiscal Impact
Training for each student will cost $3,150 and will be paid using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Students will be paid while attending training through the Solid Waste Department Operations Budget.
