Resolution - City Manager: Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a Grant Agreement, and related documents, by and between the City of Lubbock and the Helen Jones Foundation, Inc., for the receipt of Grant Funds for the construction of a Downtown Civic Park.

Item Summary

On September 28, 2021, the City Council approved Resolution No. 2021-R0388 approving the civic park project to be located at 1301 Broadway, utilizing the Wind + Water design as created by TBG Partners and as recommended by the Central Business District Tax Increment Financing Advisory Board.  On April 15, 2022, the City of Lubbock submitted an application for support of the civic park project to Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. On July 15, 2022, the City received notice that Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. voted to support the project in the amount of $500,000, for a total contribution of $1.5 million. The grant will be distributed in January of 2023.  Acceptance of the grant must be submitted to Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. no later than September 1, 2022.

Fiscal Impact

This $500,000 grant is fully funded by Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. and therefore, does not require a local match. Acceptance of this grant will result in no additional cost to the City of Lubbock.
